Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the SafeLift™ exosuit — from fit and function to safety, support, and deployment.

Exosuit: A wearable device, typically soft and flexible, that conforms to and moves with a user’s body, offering support during physical tasks by providing assistive force to reduce strain on the body and improve performance.

Exoskeleton: A broader term that includes rigid, powered or passive structures that support, protect, or enhance the wearer’s capabilities. Exoskeletons are often more rigid, bulky, and task-specific compared to exosuits.

The SafeLift exosuit is a wearable robotic backpack-like device, designed to alleviate strain and reduce risk of back injuries in industrial workplaces — such as warehouses, distribution centers, and manufacturing plants — where employees repeatedly lift or lower heavy items. Made mostly of textile materials, SafeLift is lightweight and flexible.

Advanced motion sensors connect to a high-torque motor in the backpack, which tightens a high-tensile ribbon bridging the user’s upper and lower body. This forms an external ‘artificial muscle’ in parallel with the user’s spine and lower back.

During lifting and lowering operations, the sensors activate the motor, triggering the ‘artificial muscle’ to help offload up to 40% of the load from the user’s back and hips.

Workers at risk of back injuries from repetitive lifting and lowering — including selectors, warehouse staff, and logistics employees — from a wide range of industries, such as grocery distribution, manufacturing, retail, and third-party logistics.

The SafeLift exosuit reduces the amount of strain on a user’s musculoskeletal system by up to 40% during lifting and lowering operations.

In other words, a user lifting a box that weighs 20 lbs is only putting in the effort required to lift 12 lbs.

We’ve designed the SafeLift exosuit to be highly adjustable, fitting users from 5’0” (~1.5 meters) to 6’6” (~2 meters), and XS to XXL.

This allows the vast majority of workers to comfortably use the exosuit over the course of their shift.

While ROI will vary based on a customer’s specific goals and metrics, some companies using the SafeLift exosuit have seen a 250%–350% ROI and a payback period as short as 3–5 months.

Benefits include:

  • Up to 85% reduction in injuries.
  • 2–8% improvement in productivity.
  • 10%+ improvement in employee satisfaction and retention.

Verve Logic is Verve Motion’s secure cloud-based platform that collects and analyzes safety and operational data from the SafeLift exosuit.

In addition to managing and tracking exosuit inventory at a customer’s site, Verve Logic also provides insights into individual lifting habits, risky movements, and ergonomic improvements, enabling real-time feedback and facility-wide safety trend tracking.

Learn more about Verve Logic here.

The SafeLift exosuit uses embedded sensors (inertial measurement units) to monitor risky movements such as excessive bending and twisting.

This movement data is uploaded from the exosuit to the Verve Logic portal, which generates SafeLift reports. This data can be used for coaching, ergonomic interventions, and facility safety enhancements.

The SafeLift solution, which includes the SafeLift exosuit, Verve Logic data portal, and Verve Care, is a subscription-based service.
